How to play

Type the number in the middle on your numpad and press Enter to move to the next line. The faded lines below are what comes next, so reading ahead keeps your hand moving.

On a laptop without a numpad, the top-row digits and regular symbol keys work too. On a phone, tap the on-screen keypad. Want to warm up with real calculations? Try the online calculator.

Why learn the numpad

The numpad lets one right hand reach every digit, operator and Enter. It is faster and more accurate than hunting for the top-row digits with both hands, but until your fingers learn the positions it can feel slower.

Finger placement

Rest your right index, middle and ring fingers on 4 5 6. The small bump on 5 lets you find the position without looking.

At first, aim for 95% accuracy or better rather than speed. Once you stop looking at the keys, speed follows.

How results are calculated

KPM (keys per minute) is the number of correct keys per minute: correct digits and symbols plus the Enter you press to submit, divided by the time taken. Accuracy is the share of keys pressed correctly the first time, so a key you got wrong and then fixed still counts as a typo.

How scoring works

For every correct line, all of the values below are multiplied, rounded, and added as a whole number. A correct line is worth at least 1 point however short or slow it is; a line submitted with a mistake is worth 0. Scores never have decimals.

For example, typing 1234 on Normal at 150 KPM with no typos gives 4 × 1 × 1 × 1 × 1.2 = 4.8, so 5 points. Best records are compared by score within the same options. Scores saved before the scoring rules changed are not compared with new ones, but your best KPM carries over.

People who use the numpad at work typically type around 150–200 KPM. If you are just starting, 60–100 is a normal place to begin.

FAQ

Pressing the numpad does nothing.

Click anywhere on the page once and try again. The numpad works even with NumLock off, but on some laptops you need to hold the Fn key for the numpad to work.

Where are my records saved?

Practice records are saved only in the browser you are using (localStorage). Only if you press ‘Submit to ranking’ on the results screen and create a nickname are that round's score and per-item log sent to the server and added to the ranking.

Do I need to log in to join the ranking?

No. Just pick a nickname. Save the recovery code you get on your first submission and you can continue with the same nickname on other devices. The ranking is weekly, compares the same settings only, and resets every Monday at 00:00 Korea time (KST). See today's and this week's standings on the ranking page.

Why don't I type the commas?

You don't type them in a calculator or Excel either. The commas on screen just make large numbers easier to read.

How do combo and fever work?

Each line without a typo builds your combo, and from 10 combo you are in fever, which doubles your points. Fever ends the moment you submit a line with a typo. The results screen shows your max combo, how many times you hit fever, and how long you stayed in it.

How is the score calculated?

For every correct line, key points (digit 1, point 2, operator 3) are multiplied by the speed multiplier (1× at 150 KPM, 0.5–2×), accuracy (half if fixed), combo multiplier (5% per combo from 3, 2× in fever), difficulty (Normal 1.2×, Hard 1.5×) and 1.1× for dollars, then rounded. A correct line is worth at least 1 point, and scores are always whole numbers.

Can I practice without decimals, or with dollar amounts?

Yes. In the options next to the keypad, turn decimals off for whole numbers only, or switch the unit to dollars for amounts like $120.50. If you often enter foreign payments or invoice totals, practice with dollars and decimals on. Each combination of options keeps its own best score.

Can I do the timed test with numbers only, or for 30 seconds?

Yes. Content (numbers, expressions, mixed) and mode (item count of 10–50, or a timed test of 30 seconds or 1 minute) are chosen separately. 30-second and 1-minute results and rankings are kept separately. Difficulty, digits, decimals and unit apply to every combination, and each combination keeps its own best score.

Is it free?

Yes, free and with no sign-up. Ads may be shown to cover running costs.
